DRAMA BOOK SHOP, BOOK PARTY

Wednesday, March 21, 2007 6:00 PM

A wonderful evening was had by all at The Arthur Selen Theater in New York City. Author David Kaplan read from his new book, Tennessee Williams in Provincetown (Hansen Publishing Group), shared anecdotes about Tennessee Williams and answered the audiences’ questions.

David Kaplan was joined this evening by actor Jeremy Lawrence, known for his role as the “older Williams” in the play Everyone Expects Me To Write Another Streetcar. The audience was treated to Kaplan and Lawrence reading previously unpublished poetry of Tennessee Williams.

Following the reading, a reception and book signing was hosted by Mr. Kaplan’s publisher, Hansen Publishing Group, at the Drama Book Shop in mid-town Manhattan, the heart of New York’s theater district.

Tennessee Williams in Provincetown by David Kaplan was released today in Provincetown, Massachusetts the epicenter of the book. It was immediately displayed in local booksellers’ windows. The book is expected to become a perennial best seller during the Cape Cod summer season.

The book’s contraversal cover is a photograph of Tennessee Williams posing nude (cropped discretly just below his tan line) in the Provincetown sand dunes around 1940. The author came upon the photograph when he was conducting an interview for the book with Joe Hazan, a contemporary of Tennessee Williams’ Provincetown days. At the end of interview, Joe Hazan shared with Mr. Kaplan some photographs from the Provincetown days.

Tennessee Williams in Provincetown was released in conjunction with the first Provincetown Tennessee Williams Theater Festival. David Kaplan, the author, is also the curator of the festival.
